YOGA AND YOGA THERAPY

After a brief foray into yoga in 1975, I rediscovered it in 1994 and it felt like ‘coming home’. Attending classes and a home practice quickly became part of my life; it offered not only physical benefits but also an emotional strength and sense of balance which have helped me through the challenges of life.

I initially undertook a teacher training diploma course with the British Wheel of Yoga with the sole purpose of deepening my understanding and knowledge of the subject. However, my study and practice during the first year of the course quickly led to the realisation that the natural progression was to pass yoga’s benefits on to others. I began teaching classes in 2003.

As well as being a fully qualified teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga (recognised by the Central Council for Physical Recreation and Sport England as the national Governing Body for Yoga). I am a qualified Yoga Therapist, having undergone further training with the Yoga Biomedical Trust/Yogacampus.

Over the past 24 years I have practiced and studied various forms of yoga including Iyengar, Viniyoga, Dynamic, Astanga, and Anusara. I have attended intensives with Donna Farhi and Doug Keller, and with Rod Stryker

In 2013 I trained with Alison Trewhela to teach the Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs course.  This is a wonderful, evidence based programme offering anyone with chronic low back pain the tools to improve their condition and maintain healthy posture, healthy back, and wellbeing (see www.yogaforbacks.co.uk).

MINDFULNESS – MEDITATION – YOGA NIDRA

Yoga is a mindful practice, and through BWY Modules in Meditation, together with taking a MBSR course in 2011, I realised the huge benefit of developing further the skills of mindfulness for my own benefit, which I practice daily.  My wish to pass on these ‘tools for life’ to others led me to training with MindfulnessUK on the Level 4 Integrating Mindfulness and Compassion into Professional Practice (CPCAB). and subsequently the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course Teacher Training

During 2019 I returned to my interest in Yoga Nidra meditation and trained to teach Integrative Restoration – iRest ® Yoga Nidra Level 1 and have now completed Level 2.

GRATITUDE

I am hugely grateful to all my teachers for their teachings, insights and depth of knowledge. I am very thankful to all my students, past and present, who are all such wonderful teachers.

Working as a Yoga Therapist and MBSR and iRest facilitator I have discovered the power of yoga and mindfulness as  practices of the body-mind, heart and soul, which can assist in the healing process & pain management of a large variety of ailments & conditions.
